2010 PTC Scalextric4Schools Slot Car Champions
On Sunday 23rd May 2010 teams of high school students battled to become 2010 PTC Scalextric4Schools slot car champions. A competition where High School students are challenged to design and build a slot-car using the latest CAD/CAM technology. The location was perfect; a sun baked Donington Park, the famous historic racing circuit.
Schools from across the country converged on the event with the slot cars they had designed, manufactured and tested during the year. They presented their design and build approach to a panel of judges including Roger French from Root Solutions, Paul Barraclough from Boxford and Maurice Clarke from CR Clarke.
Sandbach School Deliver The Winning Slot Car Design
Sandbach School from Cheshire were the overall winners and received their winners trophy from Roger French of Root Solutions. Roger said “The way they had got to grips with Pro/ENGINEER with very little training and created their optimised body shell using rapid prototyping really impressed us all”. A representative from the Hornby Scalextric team also presented the winning team with a Scalextric set and an invitation to a TOP Gear Live show in the autumn as their guests. Runners up were St Augustine’s school from Scarborough and Arthur Terry School from Birmingham, both showing great skill in design innovation and manufacturing.
