Enthusing Young Engineers

The competition was created by a partnership of Root Solutions, Hornby and PTC in order to encourage budding young Engineers to experience the challenge of design and manufacture. Teams design a slot car, manufacture it, race it and present their design project to a panel of judges.

The Winning Team

The winning team was from Birches Head High School in Stoke on Trent, who used PTC’s Creo 3D modelling software to create a car that performed well and demonstrated a sound understanding of design and manufacture.

Best Engineered Award

The ‘Best Engineered’ award went to one of the Russian teams from St Petersburg who managed to break a new record on the straight-line Bloodhound SSC track. A scale speed of 699 mph! Teacher Dmitry Pavlov explained: “Students made full use of the analysis tools in PTC Creo to measure, evaluate and optimise their designs before manufacture to save time and cost”.
