Benefits of PTC’s PLM Software
There is a strong business case for adopting PTC’s PLM Software. It is more than a matter of its seamless integration with the Pro/Engineer CAD software.
Polaris innovation through PLM Digital Transformation:
Adopting PTC’s PLM software, PTC Windchill brings a number of benefits. First and foremost is a rather simple to use interface for searching, viewing and annotating drawings. The next is the simplification of data and configuration management. When one drawing is updated with significant changes, every other drawing that uses this part is flagged and brought to the attention of engineering control. When a part is flagged as obsolete, data managers and drafting control are notified and given the lists of affected drawings and parts lists.
Your Configuration Management Team
Your configuration management team has their work cut out for them. When a drawing or model in the assembly is updated, anything else that may be affected by the change is flagged for review. Drafting control’s job is dramatically simplified. Users can generate requests to change documents, and drafting control only needs to approve the changes for tasks to be generated for drafters. Drafters can take the assignments they’re available to do, and tasks can be reassigned when someone is out of the office or overloaded. Document control gains insight as to the rate of change on particular projects, who is generating the most update requests, and which drafters are the most productive.
Your IT Support
IT support is dramatically simplified, though you gain significant flexibility, too. You can set up users with general view permissions or varying levels of access to different projects. You can set up access control limits so that external users like suppliers and customers only see what you want them to see. Share critical files and technical data packages by sending a system-generated link to them. They’ll see the latest and greatest version of the documents, and only the person you’ve authorized to see the data can access it. You don’t have to worry about losing sensitive information because your customer’s email was hacked. Nor will your suppliers end up working off old drawings or product models. Because PDMLink is highly configurable, you can use out of the box workflows for drawings and other objects, or you create new ones that fit your current workflow.
Your IT Security
IT security can pull up logs to review the access history of specific files. You can shut down access to specific individuals within an instant. Run reports to determine who has what authority on a product or project, and adjust their access within moments. At the same time, PTC Windchill lets team members access product models without the risk of them accidentally or intentionally changing something. A secondary benefit of PTC’s Windchill is the built-in data protection due to saved iterations and version control. When someone checks out a document and works on it, others can’t accidentally change what someone else is creating or updating. When they check it in, it is automatically available to everyone else on the team. You never have to worry about critical in-work files being lost because they’re sitting on the engineer’s hard drive. If they accidentally upload a corrupted version of the Pro Engineer model as the latest and greatest version, the prior iterations and versions are still saved in PDMLink.
A side benefit of PTC’s Windchill is that it can be hosted locally or on the cloud. You never have to worry about losing mission-critical data because your servers are down or the building was damaged in a disaster if you save it to the cloud. At the same time, only those with the need to know gain 24x7x365 access to your data.
