Mathcad Prime Chart Functionality
What is a Mathcad Chart component?
This functionality was added in Mathcad Prime 5.0 and improved upon in Mathcad Prime 6.0. The chart plot is an improvement of the plot feature previously available. One of the main advantages of this addition is the improvement to the usability of the chart creation process.
PTC summarise the key aspects of this as being:
- Full Axes formatting
- Titles and Legends
- Second Y-Axis
- Customisable plot look and feel
So let us breakdown some of this functionality…
The chart components can be opened in a separate window for easy editing. This also gives you additional capability to zoom in on particular areas of the graph within this window.
Default templates for your Chart Layout, Axes and Traces assist you with getting started. Check out the image below which gives you an idea of the chart templates available in Prime 6.0
The Axes Templates also include templates for the gridlines, to allow you to quickly set up linear or logarithmic gridlines for your charts. You can then edit the line styles, thickness and colour of these gridlines and customize the frequeny of your minor gridlines.
Toggle on or off your labels, titles and background colour control with simple tick boxes. Made a mistake? Quickly restore the defaults for a particular feature you were working on. Parallels could be drawn between this and functionality that is present in Mathcad 15.

You can add a border and fill in many aspects of the chart, such as the plot area or the axis and graph title labels. You have 80 default colours to choose from with the option of using the colour pallet if more needed. You can apply colour to chart areas as fill or gradient with the option of changing opacity. Make your charts as psychedelic as you want!

A quick example to highlight the control you get in Mathcad Prime for formatting your graphs. You probably wouldn’t create a graph as extravagant as this, but it’s nice to have the option!
Mathcad Prime 6.0 gives you the ability to export your charts as images to use in third party applications. These are the supported formats:
We recommend upgrading to Mathcad Prime 6.0 to take advantage of this useful feature in addition to the many other features such as enhanced template options now available.
